how they work
How the rankings are calculated
Tennis rankings are based on results over a rolling 52-week window. Players earn points for how far they go in each tournament, with Grand Slams carrying the most. A player's ranking total is built from their best results within that window, up to a set number of tournaments.
Points drop off 52 weeks after they were earned, which is why a player can fall in the rankings without losing a match: if they can't match last year's result at the same event, they lose the difference.
schedule
When they're published
The ATP and WTA publish updated rankings weekly, usually on Monday, after the previous week's tournaments finish.
In the app: both lists come straight from the official ATP and WTA rankings. They are checked on Monday morning and evening and again on Tuesday morning (US Eastern time), so the new list usually appears on Monday, the day it's published. Each list shows the ranking date with the week number, for example "W39".
