how they work
How the rankings are calculated
FIFA's rankings are points-based. After each international match, teams exchange points depending on the result, the result that was expected given both teams' existing points, and the importance of the match. A World Cup match counts for more than a friendly.
The men's ranking has used this match-by-match method, known as SUM, since 2018. The women's and futsal rankings also update from international results, so a team's position reflects its recent record against the strength of its opponents.
Only national teams are ranked. There are no club rankings in FIFA's world ranking.
schedule
When they're published
FIFA doesn't publish on a fixed weekly cadence. New editions usually follow international match windows, which means a few releases a year, with gaps of a month or more between them. The men's, women's and futsal rankings each have their own release dates.
In the app: FIFA's ranking page is checked daily for a new edition, and the app shows the date FIFA gave the edition you are viewing.

questions
Frequently asked questions
Why hasn't the FIFA ranking changed for weeks?
FIFA only publishes after international match windows, so the latest edition can be a month or more old. The date at the top of the list tells you which edition you are seeing.
Can I follow my national team?
Yes. Open the ranking and tap the star next to your team. It is highlighted in the list and appears under Favorites on the home screen.
Are women's and futsal rankings included?
Yes. Use the Men/Women switch at the bottom of each list. Futsal has its own entry under Soccer, with men's and women's rankings.
Does the app rank clubs?
No. FIFA's world rankings cover national teams only, and so does the app.
