how they work
How the rankings are calculated
World Rugby uses a points-exchange system. Every team has a rating, usually between 0 and 100, and after each Test the winner takes points from the loser. How many depends on the gap between the two ratings: an upset moves more points than an expected win.
The home team is treated as if it were 3 points stronger, a win by more than 15 points moves 1.5 times as many points, and Rugby World Cup matches count double.
schedule
When they're published
World Rugby publishes the updated rankings every Monday, after the weekend's Tests.
In the app: World Rugby's rankings are checked on Monday and again on Tuesday morning, and each list shows World Rugby's date for that edition.

questions
Frequently asked questions
Why didn't my team's ranking change after a win?
When a much higher-rated team beats a much lower-rated one, the expected result happened, so few or no points change hands.
Are sevens rankings included?
No. The app shows the fifteens rankings for men and women.
Can I follow my country?
Yes. Tap the star next to a team. Its profile also shows where that country ranks in the other sports in the app.
