how they work

How the rankings are calculated

FIBA's rankings are built from results in official FIBA competitions and their qualifiers, played over several years. Points depend on the result, the strength of the opponent and the competition, with major tournaments counting for more than qualifiers.

Recent games carry more weight than older ones, so a strong run in the current cycle moves a team faster than results from years ago.

schedule

When they're published

FIBA updates the rankings after its international windows and major competitions, so weeks or months can pass between editions.

In the app: FIBA's ranking pages are checked daily for a new edition, and each list shows the date FIBA gave it.
