how they work

How the rankings are calculated

The IIHF ranking is based on where teams finished in the last four World Championships and the last Olympic tournament. The most recent year counts in full and earlier years count for less, stepping down to 75%, 50% and 25%.

Because it rewards tournament placings rather than individual games, the ranking moves once a year rather than week to week.

schedule

When they're published

The IIHF publishes its ranking once a year, after the World Championships finish in late spring. The date in the app stays the same until the next edition.

In the app: the IIHF's ranking pages are checked weekly, and each list shows the IIHF's date for the current edition.
