how they work

How the rankings are calculated

A fencer's best five World Cup, Grand Prix or satellite results count, plus the World Championships, the Olympics and zonal championships. Points go by finishing place, 32 for a win, and bigger events multiply them: Grand Prix 1.5, World Championships 2.5, Olympics 3.

The ranking rolls: a result drops off when that competition comes round again.

schedule

When they're published

The FIE updates the rankings after each of its competitions.

In the app: all six lists are checked on Monday and again on Tuesday morning, straight from the FIE. The FIE's list has no publication date, so each list shows the date of the latest competition that counts.
